Change.gov

Change.gov screenshotMan, does Obama know how to use technology.

Check out http://change.gov/. Not even a week after his election and he already has an excellent Web site up providing and soliciting information.

I’m so excited about his presidency, and I hope even those that weren’t for him can appreciate his ideas for improving government.

I’m very hopeful that he will “govern from the middle” and include Republicans as much as is possible. I would even love to see some Republicans in his cabinet.

The beautiful thing about his message of Change is that he can do ...

Al Smith Dinner

Did anyone catch McCain and Obama’s speeches last night?

They were both hilarious! Obama is lucky this McCain didn’t show up to the debates.

“I don’t like the fact that he thinks us white people are trash — cause we’re not.” Well, not all of us.

What's really scary

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

A Facebook friend posted a note the other day that included the text of a chain letter.

I encourage you to go look at the letter, but to ignore its advice to “‘Beware of the enemy from within’!!!”

It’s hard to believe that anyone would truly pay attention to such blatant bullshit, but, surprisingly, they do.

Here are the responses:

Person 1:

Wow…and no matter how many people vote McCain, I have a feeling Obama will be our next President despite everything.

Can you hear me now?

Thursday, October 9, 2008

From CNN:

Adrienne Kinne, a former U.S. Army Reserves Arab linguist, told ABC News the NSA was listening to the phone calls of U.S. military officers, journalists and aid workers overseas who were talking about “personal, private things with Americans who are not in any way, shape or form associated with anything to do with terrorism.”

According to Faulk, they would often share the contents of some of the more salacious calls stored on their computers, listening to what he called “phone sex” and “pillow talk.”

There are those who advocate Bush’s policies trampling our civil liberties ...

VP Debate

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Before I start watching the spin, I wanted to put down my thoughts on the debate.

I think Palin did a great job. She seemed well informed and came off as very likable.
She did, however, continue to be overly general, indicating a lack of deep understanding of many big issues.

Biden also did a very good job. I think he was very effective in tying McCain’s policies to those of W. He also turned in a masterful performance. He walked a fine line with Palin, and I think he came off as being gracious while being strong. There ...

Bon Iver

Music video by The Masses

I heard Bon Iver for the first time last week (does that make me lame or cool?), and I can’t get enough of their album, For Emma, Forever Ago (iTunes), particularly the songs Flume, Skinny Love and The Wolves (Act 1&2), which is embedded above.

The Wolves (as I hear it) is a great song about being dumped. Check out the lyrics and see if you agree.

Tony Blair

Monday, September 22, 2008

The last part of this interview, where they talk about Iraq, is very good.
Regardless of your opinion on the war, I think it’s easy to respect Blair’s ability and willingness to speak about his decision to go to war.
It’s unfortunate that so many views are shouted down here in America as being unpatriotic or stupid. I hope the level of political discourse goes up in the future, although I don’t see much reason to be optimistic.

That's what she said

Happy Friday! As promised, something non-political.
Enjoy a montage of every “That’s what she said!” from The Office.

The difference between right and left

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

“Psychologist Jonathan Haidt studies the five moral values that form the basis of our political choices, whether we’re left, right or center. In this eye-opening talk, he pinpoints the moral values that liberals and conservatives tend to honor most.”
(Also enjoy the most pompous preroll in all the Internet)

This really helped me to understand some of my liberal leanings.
I very much relate to the measures on purity, fairness and harm.
I probably a little more on the conservative side with regard to ingroup and authority, because I believe that when they are appropriate, they are very appropriate ...
